Choosing the right speaker wire.

Why do we need to use the right gauge of wire? Yes!  Does size and quality of speaker wire affects the quality of sound produce by the speaker? Yes!

Most speaker when you buy doesn't include speaker wires. Selection of appropriate wire gauge is very necessary to your sound system. A cable that's too "light"will result in amplifier power being wasted due to the series resistance of the cable. It will also result in the loss of low-frequency performance due to a degraded damping factor. On the other hand, a cable that is too "heavy" is very awkward and costly.
So what gauge you will be using to your system? Here is a quick guide for you.

Distance from the amplifier to the speaker           

1. Less than 80 feet ------16 AWG
2. 80 to 200 feet  ----------14 AWG
3. 200 feet or more --------12 AWG

Note: AWG --> The thickness of a wire's conductive copper bundle is identified by its American Wire Gauge (AWG, or usually just "gauge") number. The lower the gauge is, the thicker the wire is — and the better its capacity to pass the amplified audio signal. Most speaker wire available on the market today ranges in thickness from 12-gauge to 16-gauge.
